<lj:music>PJ Harvey - Uh Huh Her</lj:music>

This was a good night.

Due to me NOT being paid this weekend as I hoped I would, I was in despair as I missed out on Fimbulvetr last night, and was gearing down for a long boring weekend at home.

Thankfully, the lovely ishkhara (whom I had no idea had my mobile number!), invited me out to see 'The Grudge 2' in the cinema - so huge Dr.Evil style hugs'n'stuff to her for assisting me in financing the night's entertainment and drinky-poos! :oD Of course, it was also great to see the rest of the not-got-a-scooby gang, too!

The Grudge 2. What a scream. And totally not in a scary way, I'm afraid to say. What it deliver, and in a totally unintentional way, was piss-yourself-laughing hilarious scenes. I think that, what with us all being hardened horror movie afociandos, we might've posibly spoiled the movie for some of the other cinema-goers with our childish giggling throughout the movie. But no apologies, we enjoyed it! Of particular note in the movie was the completely random scene (which I got excited about - as it could've potentially turned into a lactose-fueled teen lesbian cheerleader romp, but alas...) where a girl is drinking milk and hilariously vomits it back into the bottle. Pure comedy gold, partly because it was completely meant to be scary and serious. The constantly windy ghost thingy, the even windier school headteacher/shrink, and the little blue 'MEEEEEEEOOOOOW' boy were also consistantly amusing throughout the movie!

After the movie, we went to have a few drinkies and food (which I thankfully managed to buy myself!), and got ready for our second movie of the night, 'Red Road'. To put it mildly, it was grim. It's basically about a CCTV operator who bags off with an recently released convict to try and wreak vengeance on him for the accidental death of her husband and daughter. The storytelling was particularly good, because the plot slowly unfolded as the movie progressed, leaving you to fill in the gaps as it went along, wondering what was driving the main character to do the awful things that she does. It was a strange movie, and I'm not particularly sure if I enjoyed it or not, but it was very well made and impeccably acted - even though it could've done with being half an hour shorter.

So that was that. Thanks again to everyone for a very amusing night!

Other great parts of the evening:

- nuclearchicken's hugely entertaining spiderman cum web blasting wrist action. (my, what an action figure that would make!)
- Tangfastics. Turbocharged sugar rushes courtesy of Haribo loveliness
- Swearing. It's not big or clever, but it's always fun
- Seeing a hugely drunken tart of a witchy-poo fall down the stairs on the bus home. (she was ok, though!)
- Almost losing my keys. Ok, that wasn't fun, but the joyous feeling I had when I gone back into the cinema and found 'em was SUCH a relief!

    <lj:music>Schrodinger's Beard (in my head)</lj:music>

What a night.

...What a FUCKING night!!

The gig went pretty well, despite the fact that we all made rather horrendous mistakes at several points throughout it! But, as bluesound said (or was it nuclearchicken??), the mark of a good band is one that can recover from mistakes when playing live. And recover we did. For only our second gig, we once again got a fairly decent response from the audience - and I think we once again outshone the 'headlining' band - a fairly beefy accolade, methinks!

There was a few bizarre moments of the night, as always. The first of which was a rather amusing technicolour hippy who was having lots of fun prancing about the dancefloor to our songs. Or, in fact, any song that remotely had a rhythm. He was highly amusing and completely harmless, too. The second bizarre thing was the bizarre moment right after our performance, when this drop-dead-gorgeous american girl strolls up to me and asked me for a dance. ('fuck' I thought - a real groupie!) ...But I had to get the bass guitar off the stage and packed away, so I said to her that I'd be back in a minute. After I'd done that (via a wee trip to the loo), I come out and she was fucking GONE! Gutted! Ah well, nothing gained, nothing lost - it just exemplified how life seems to enjoy shitting on me from a great height sometimes. Right. The third, and most confusing event of the night is when the apparent new would-be-could-be girlfriend I had aquired (who recently told me that she wanted to just be a friend), calls me up and invites me to a boozy night with her and her friend, saying that she really likes me?! Argh! I had to decline, as it was 02:30 in the morning, and despite the fact that I was driving, had probably drank a wee bit more than I really should've - and didn't want to risk driving all the way to Livingston, should the fuzz decide to pull me over and breathalyse me.

But hey, I ferried everyone else home safe and sound, and am sitting her typing this now - so all ends well!

Looking forward to helping julesbabe2310 celebrate her birthday tomoz night, as we go to have some lovely tea at Chai before going to the rather yummy Bonsai restaurant for some excellent food and to get merry on Sake!

But, alas, I must retreat to bed or else I'll be shuffling around edinburgh like a mindless zombie tomorrow. Which I'll probably do anyways. Just for fun.

Girls. Meh.

We went out to a cool gothy clubby night (the name of which completely escapes me), which played some pretty damn fine music (Rammstein, Covenant, and Ministry, woohoo!) and a mucho grandes good time was had. The music kinda grabbed me particularly strongly last night, so I spent alot of time bouncing around on the extremely crowded dancefloor trying to avoid being twatted by glowsticks and avoid thinking that I was on a set of a new as-yet-unnamed Mad Max movie. Which was kinda fun. One of the other fun things about the night was jumping around and generally making a twat of myself on a 'dance dance revolution'-type arcade machine which, incidentally, was hard-as-nails. (although, unsurprisingly there was a Japanese girl there who was absolutely amazing at it.... mmmm....) Ahem. Shortly after that, played a terrible racing game which was obviously aimed at the boyracers-with-no-brains market.

Pissed out of my head, and grinning from ear-to-ear, I ended up leaving with <lj user="mr_moleskin") at about 2AM and headed home via the chippy before grabbing a Taxi home.

Today has equally been quite fun - I woke up minus a hangover, which is quite impressive considering how wasted I was, hehe! The last EVER (well... potentially) vegan breakfast was enjoyed with Neil & the Beard. After that, I couldn't resist showing off my new toy and in turn ended up nicking quite a alot of new music off Neil! Thanks, dude! :o)))

I'm back home now, just chilling out and listening to some music. Urgh, why do weekends go so damn quickly?!!

Ah well, I know I would've got it eventually - my mother's had it for a week now, so it's probably inevitable that it wormed it's way past my body's defences!

Tonight I have mostly been trying to figure out 'ReNoise'. It's a wonderfully stable and feature filled soundtracker program that I'm planning on doing some stuff for Schrodinger's Beard on. The only problem with it is that it's complicated. REALLY complicated. And I need to get myself a MIDI controller to be able to use it to it's full potential, cashflow depending of course!

Other musicy stuff I've been doing is drolling over this bass guitar on ebay. It's absolutely gorgeous and very rock'n'roll, but I fear that it's going to rocket way out of my price league by the time the auction comes to it's end. Ah well, but inevitably I'll have to get my own bass guitar so that bluesound can finally get his own one back! Maybe I'll sell my old six-string that I never really got the hang of?

I was really excited to hear about the little genius that babyklawz is turning into. I miss the little dude like crazy, but there's not much that I can do about it... I'll have to get him up to Edinburgh sometime so that I can show him off to all of you.

With the arrival of my laptop, I'm looking to download some choons. Anybody got any suggestions?

Anyways, that's all from me tonight. Have fun, folks! :o)

    <lj:music>It's all in my head...</lj:music>

Okay guys, as I revealed a couple of days ago, I've been feeling creative musically and busy penning some lyrics!

This is my first effort - a homage to the 8-bit homebrew gaming days of the 80's! It's working in my head musically as a rock'n'rolly/bluesy track at the moment, so have a gander at the lyrics below and let me know what you think...

I remember there was a time
Where nothing made me happier than playing
8-Bit games on my 8-Bit games machine

I put the tape into the deck
And it rolled on over the capstans to give me
8 shades of gray on my portable TV screen

2D sprites and a parallax scroll
The chips and circuits spoke right to my soul
Spaceships dragons and jumping eggs
Makes me feel fuzzy and the question begs

Chorus: Whatever happened to the glory days of
Text adventures and helter skelters?
The new generations are nice and all
But they're just not as good as the one I remember
To you I may seem like a bit of a bore
Playing on my ancient C64
But can't you tell that I'm just a super-geek
living on nostalgia week after week

Jet Set Willy was kinda cool
Jumping over bad guys like a crazy fool
Head over heels were pretty damn weird
Pioneers of the early 3D field

I want innocence and fun for all
To get them all a magical green wizball
Let them bounce and roll and mix up potions
Get them in the everlasting 8-bit motions

(Chorus)

Kids today they all seem to forget
Where it all began and the foundations were set
Homebrew talent is what we need
To suffocate the corporate whore's filthy greed

So much to play and so little time
You wonder what I'm gonna go and do with mine
I'm gonna grab my Konix Speedking and
Get myself an 8-Bit TV tan

(Chorus)

This is my 8-bit Anthem
(all 16k of it)

This is my 8-Bit Anthem
(16-Bit is really shit)

This is my 8-Bit Anthem
(I know I'm full of it)

This is my 8-Bit Anthem
And I don't want it to end

:o)

Ubuntu killed my laptop!

With the arrival of my shiny new laptop, I fully intended to launch myself back into the online world as soon as humanly possible, but things didn't exactly happen that way.

Silly old me decided to try and partition my hard drive and install Ubuntu by myself last night, which ultimately proved to be a rather foolish mistake. It all seemed to be going rather well, partition magic had set up the linux partition and swap file - it was even saying that it was going to do some sort of fancy-pants dual booty type thingy and everything... But once it had taken, like, a YEAR to do it's work, it rebooted and said something along the lines of 'no bootable operating system found'. I, the consumate drama queen that I am, almost started crying, thinking that I'd totally destroyed my new laptop within 48 hours of recieving it!

And this is where the kick in the teeth comes from. I am about to commit blasphemy by saying that Microsoft actually come to the rescue! I rebooted with the XP CD, and it detected the linux/fucked up partition and allowed me to format the entire disk again and reinstall windaes.

Aaanyways, things are all running lovely again (in fact, they seem to be oddly running even better than they were when I first recieved it), and I'm a happy bunny again. I really DO want to install ubuntu, but I fear that I'll need one of you nerdy programmer types with experience in linux to help me!

Other than that, life is pretty much getting settled back to ground again after my first brush with semi-stardom last Sunday. I'm really looking forward to our next practise session, and have been scribbling down lyrics and generally feeling rather creative! Excitingly, I also found a program which seems like a combination of Buzztracker and Impulse Tracker called BeRoTracker that looks very exciting. nuclearchicken and bluesound should definately have a looksy at it to see what yas think of it!

Anyways, that all from me at the moment. Looking forward to the weekend, and stuff!

It's arrived! At flippin' last, it's arrived!!!

Oh yes, my sexy new toy arrived whilst I was out at work today, so upon my arriv
al home, much shredding of sellotape & cardboard ensued. And at last, I held aloft to the sound of angels & demons battling, stars collapsing under their own immense density, er... I'm getting a bit carried away here, huh?

I'll get to the point. If you may or may not have noticed, there's been a distinct lack of posting by moi on LJ for the past couple of months. This sordid state of affairs started as my brother, who didn't used to mind me comandeering his PC for a couple of hours a night, decided to place a ban on me doing so. Well, maybe 'ban' is the wrong idea, but he moaned like fuck whenever I asked to go on it! So I obviously sulked like a spoilt brat, and decided to get myself my own laptop.

So, from this day onwards, I'll be able to post on here and flit around the internet with semi-gay abandon.

Yay!

Oh yes, a shiny new flappy lappy (which coitainly ain't crappy) laptop of intimidating power and funkiness shall be winging it's way to me within the week.
Where the heck did the weekend go?

Ah, but since it was probably THE best weekend I've had in such a long, long time, that would probably explain why it went so bloody quickly. Friday night was a rather sedate affair - a nice impromptu trip to Costco with bluesound, julesbabe2310, and nuclearchicken to get some much needed alcohol and munchies for the absolutely wonderful barbeque at mr_moleskin's place. Costco is bloody wonderful, cheap booze (heck, cheap everything) is definately a good thing!

I picked up Jules'n'Dugs at about 14:00 on Saturday afternoon and headed out to Longniddry. The hourney was pretty uneventful until we reached the Gosford Estate, only to find that the Police had sealed off the section with the entrance on it... Bollocks! After attempting a wee jaunt around the other side (which was rather futile, so we called for directions!), we spotted Cat and bundled her into Betty, before taking the perscribed alternate route into the estate! (ooh, forests and bambies, wheee!)

Upon arrival at mr_moleskin's place, we unloaded the precious cargo (booze) into the house and promptly started tearing into it like there was no tomorrow. There was already a large gathering of beautiful and wonderful people there, too (dan_monkeyhouse, sublevel3, pica_sapien, johnnyrandom, grumm, Dave Wilkie & Co, etc...) so the fun started pretty much straight away. Mmmm, BBQ's are fab and groovy, and the beefy/boary carnivorous (or veggie, if you preferred) food went down a treat. Since I had 5l of Pinot Grigio to glug my way through, there was no shortage of booze at any time (I glady invited Cat to assist me in sinking it, in fact!), it wasn't too long before I was grinning like a man posessed! The Harris Hawks were beautiful, the ferrets were furry and toothy, and a bloody good time was had by all!

Come about 8PM (or was it 10? ...I can't remember, oddly enough!), a unanimous descision was made that we were all heading back into Edinburgh to go to Absynth, so we grabbed the last train back into town! We wandered there via the Hollyrood, but it was far too warm and busy, so we headed to the club. Once we were there, it was highly pleasant. Nicol Edward's is a great venue, really apmospheric and suitably dark. The music was generally kick-ass, so a damn good boogy was therefore enjoyed by myself and others. As the company gradually departed and sleepyness crept up on us, we ended up leaving the club at about four-ish.

A HUGE thankyou to pica_sapien for being a generally wonderful all-round nice guy and letting me crash at his place! Beers for you, my friend!

Predictably, Sunday morning was spent nursing a particularly nasty hangover. After plenty of water and walking to the Auld Hoose for breakfast, I was feeling much better. Although, I had to ask mummm-ra to pick me up and drive me to mr_moleskin's place afterwards so that I could pick up Betty!

Back to reality today, work was not too bad - the normal affair of routine and boredom. Upon getting home, I almost immediately started practicing basslines - I've almost nailed the 'Stand and Deliver' one, and am looking forward to learning new ones!

Anyways, I'd better get off my bruv's PC before he moans! Catch ya'll laterz!

Argh, where the feck did the weekend go?

Hmmm... It seems to have appeared and vanished in what appears to have been a nano-second. Oh well.

It was rather fun while it lasted, though! Saturday's gig was just fabulous, with the debut/demise of Barry Whitehouse - which was probably the funniest thing I've seen in a while! I did take pics of it, but my crappy camera phone just it's up to taking pics in the dark! Bah! The other bands were excellent, particularly good was 'IX' - in all their doomy-sludge extreme heaviness. Oh boy, my ears only just stopped ringing today! 'Naked Shit' were also excellent, and Tim, the lead singer, is one of the nicest guys you could ever hope to meet.

Before Barry Whitehouse appeared onstage, I was notified by johnnyrandom that there was a rather famous car outside, so I rushed out of the venue and promptly creamed myself.

Oh yes.

I really, really should attempt to learn to play beyond 2/3 string power chords sometime! On the plus side, I learned that I can play the bass guitar, as it is reliatively simple to play compared to lead/rhythm.

Apart from that, much amusement was found as we were joined by nuclearchicken, pica_sapien, and mr_moleskin, and ended up watching South Park and the always hilarious Drawn Together.

I was a bit cream-crackered, so I left pretty early.
Had a most excellent weekend.

Despite waking up on the Saturday morning feeling rather like the floor of a taxi cab (ie: like shit), I moped around feeling rather sorry for myself before I finally decided to take some happy drugz (er, paracetamol, woo!) that made all of the pain go away. After a while, I sent a few texts to find out what the Scooby gang was up to, and got cordially invited to breakfast/lunch in the Auld Hoose. I did despair a little that johnnyrandom had proposed a BBQ on the afternoon, but the weather wasn't exactly looking lovely and I hadn't heard any other news on it, so I jumped on a bus and headed into town - destination: the Auld Hoose.

A yummy lunch of Nachos & Chilli was enjoyed (although it was an absolutely gargantuan portion that I could only get half-way through!) washed down with Hoegaarden, my favourite drinky at the moment! After that, I ended up toddling to Homebase with bluesound and julesbabe2310 on a quest to find screws for a certain revamped bass guitar, which were consequently not found. After that, we headed into town via a music store where the screws WERE found and I got around to buying a new high-e string for my guitar, which I ended up twanging a couple of weeks ago. After that, we met up with nuclearchicken and xlifeinwartimex one more (who had been on a Barry Whitehouse reconnaisance mission) outside underground nation/deadhead comics and had a few rummages through several charity shops before ending up in the Holyrood at about 17:30.

What a surprise.

It was a fab night, as dan_monkeyhouse and Kat (whom I didn't know worked in Spacey's... ponder, designs, ponder, hmmmmmm...), joined us, and we had a surprise as mr_moleskin joined us, too! I was drinking Fraeoch (that yummy heather ale, which I have most likely mis-spelt the name of) which was getting me progressively plastered as the night went by, but things taken a turn for the worse once the bar ran out of it, and I decided to switch to Nukkie Brown. After two bottles of it, I was getting somewhat close to shit-faced, and ended up being surprisingly good at darts (it was the drink, obviously). Being in such a state, at 23:30, I make the sensible descision of going home, and promptly fell fast asleep on my mum's couch shortly after getting home!

Here's a shocker. On Sunday morning I did NOT have a hangover! Bloody amazing. So, predictably, I headed to the 'tavern once again to join nuclearchicken, pica_sapien, and xlifeinwartimex for the lovely vegan breakfast. After that, we joined bluesound and julesbabe2310 in Queen's park and enjoyed the weather while it lasted. Much amusement came behalf of the Beard's kite! I was initially a little terrified of the thought of being let loose with a flying weapon of mass destruction/embarrassment, but after a few misfires, actually got the hang of it pretty quickly! I want to get my own now! :o)))

Ah, my second week at my new job commenced today. It was thankfully busier today with it being a monday. I'm having the proverbial shuttling around departments this week, and am in the warehouse tomorrow, which should be, er, interesting.

Tonight, I was all up for going to the pub quiz, but am feeling utterly knackered, so I'm giving it a miss. So, time to just kick back and relax, methinks!

Wow, I can't believe it's Thursday. Already.

The new job is going well. It's a wee smidge boring, but a job's a job, huh? I've come to the conclusion that it is basically a better-than-average paid data entry job with the extra benefit of having gardening equipment discount. Which, I suppose is no bad thing! I'm particularly chuffed at getting it because it's a totally secure job. The company has been going since the 1700's, and most of the staff have been there 5+ years - so I have no intention on looking for another job anytime soon.

I'm starting to look forward to getting my own place now - but I've no idea how long it's going to take. I've pretty much gave up on the idea of getting a private-let, because they're seriously expensive, costing £380+ per month BEFORE council tax, bills, and food! It's insane, so I've decided to do the sensible thing and start queueing for a council house - they're much cheaper and stable. I put my name forward for three houses in Dumbiedykes, an area that's nestled right in the middle of the town centre and, more importantly, super-close to several of my good friends! :o)

Had an 'interesting' night last night watching 'Bad Boy Bubby'. If you've not had the pleasure, just take the most twisted, fucked up and strange movie you've ever seen, relocate it to Australia, and turn the 'fucked-upped-ometer' to maximum. It's also extremely hilarious, and obsessed with boobs. Which is always good.

Tonight, I finally decided to wash Betty, as I could barely see out of her windscreen. I also discovered that she's developed a hole in the exhaust. NOT the news that I wanted to hear! Other than that, I've just been enjoying the beautifully cooler night than we've been having recently, and am about to open some beer! Woohoo!

Looking forward to the weekend - I'm not sure if there's any solid plans, but I'm sure I'll end up in a pub at some point! :o)

Bloody hell, I am TIRED!

After Friday night's (or was it Thursday?) excellent 'Wraiths' / 'High on Fire' gig (See earlier posts for more on that), I had a rather wonderful Saturday being an all-round nice guy / burger flipper as I performed amazing feats of barbequery (is that a word?) for my extended family - all whilst suffering one of those nasty time-delayed hangovers that hit you mid afternoon... After a little lie-down, a couple of drugs, and large amounts of Aqua-de-Saughton (er, tap water that I was cunningly disguising as posh water in a Volvic bottle) I fairly rapidly bounced back, thankfully.

Deciding that alcohol was not a good idea after the hangover, I set off towards Milton Street for a wonderful night sitting in the shadow of Arthur's Seat pretending to be a tramp with the usual gang of nuclearchicken, bluesound, julesbabe2310, pica_sapien, johnnyrandom, and xlifeinwartimex, and the Grummmm. It was also wonderful to see the lovely ishkhara again and meet her very cool friend, simonchapman. Super cool dude sublevel3 was also over from Glaesgae, and brought a couple of really nice New Zealander friends with him, and it was nice meeting vio, too! So many new friends! :o)))

...Anyways, much fun was had discussing truly filthy subjects and evading grass-stains as bluesound and pica_sapien kept attempting to roll me down the hill / roughly bum me. Amusement for all come behalf of ishkhara as she attempted to break into an old woman's house, thinking it was someone else's! (Tee hee!) ...After it started getting a bit dark, we all headed to the Holyrood Tavern for a few drinkies and more yapping, and I roughly bummed a fibreglass cow en-route. I, the pub, it was also decided that I'm Pickles, Neil is Onions, and Dougie is Cheese. Hmmm...

After last orders and getting thrown out at about 01:30, we all headed back to Dougie's and Jules's place for yet more drinkies (Well, erm, water for me). Since everyone was getting progressively more plastered, I was bemused by the silly goings on in the room, as I was stone-cold sober. It was a great night, which I reluctantly decided to call quits to and head home at the unearthly hour of 03:30!! And, oddly enough, I wasn't even tired...

The usual Vegan Breakfast back at the 'Tavern was on Sunday as usual, with the mind-blowing revelation that my brother decided to tag along to it! :oO He seemed to get on pretty well with you guys, too... After that, I ended up having a wander around the town centre with him, and buying some Anime DVD's...

Today was my first day at work. This meant that I had to get up a 07:00 sharpish, which was not pleasant at all! It's not the most exciting place to work in the world, but it pays reasonably well, and keeps me out of trouble!

I'm kicking back and relaxing tonight. Nothing to strenuous. Looking forward to meeting up with everyone again! ...Love you all to bits!!!
